From the Museum Series, a heavily toned black-and-white study of a Roman sculpture — itself a copy of a lost Greek bronze, dating to around 430 BC. The male figure is highly idealised, in keeping with the traditions of the time: proportions resolved, the body composed in a state of quiet perfection. Athleticism, here as now, resists the erosion of fashion. An arm is missing, yet nothing essential is lost. The absence does not diminish the work; if anything, it sharpens its presence. What remains is a form of enduring authority — composed, complete, and undiminished by time.
