Built in 1598 by Sir Edward Phelips, a key figure in British history, he served as the chief prosecutor of the Gunpowder Plot and was a highly esteemed government official. In more recent years, Montacute House has graced the screen as a stunning backdrop for several episodes of the BBC adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall.
