Photograph of Grand Bé in Saint-Malo on the coast of north western France. Grand Bé is one of several fortresses built on islands close to the walled city. The Fort was built primarily as part of a defence system against the British and Dutch fleets. Saint-Malo is a walled, port city, perhaps best known for its Privateers (Pirates approved by the King!) from the middle ages onwards.
