An early morning photograph captures the tranquil beauty of Place des Héros in Arras, a picturesque town in northern France near the Belgian border. Bathed in soft dawn light, the square’s elegant Flemish-Baroque facades evoke centuries of history. Though steeped in charm, Arras also bears the weight of its past, having witnessed significant events during both World War I and World War II.

This photograph was made in 2010 on a large format (4" x 5") view camera on film.
