The Round Tower
£75.00
The Round Tower (Rundetårn) in Copenhagen, Denmark, is as intriguing inside as it is from the outside. Its interior may seem unusual - even bizarre - at first glance. But once you understand its purpose, it makes perfect sense: a spiralling ramp, rising almost 35 metres, designed so that riders could ascend on horseback from the ground floor to the very top. Built by King Christian IV, the tower served as an astronomical observatory, marrying function with a touch of royal eccentricity.
