Wells Cathedral MMXXIII, England
£95.00
Wells Cathedral, located in Somerset, England, began construction in 1175 as a Catholic cathedral. Following King Henry VIII’s break from Rome, it became an Anglican cathedral. Often regarded as one of the first truly Gothic buildings in Europe, its intricate façade and striking architecture make it a landmark of medieval design. Wells itself is one of the smallest cities in the UK, with a population of just over 11,000. The city takes its name from three natural wells, two of which are found within the cathedral grounds. Currently, at the bottom left corner of the cathedral’s façade, a contemporary touch blends with history—Antony Gormley’s sculpture Doubt occupies a once-vacant niche, offering a thought-provoking contrast to its surroundings.
